Mining Engineer

Position: Engineer

Location: Cumberland Mine
Reports to (title): Manager Engineering

Experience/Background/Job Specific and/or Technical Skills Required

  • BS/MS Degree – Engineering – Mining, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or equivalent.
  • Underground Mining experience preferred
  • Innovative, highly motivated self-starter to conceive and initiate new projects through daily interaction with mine operators, peers, supervisors, and managers.
  • Professional Engineer or in Process of Registration, Preferred

Position Summary

Manage and coordinate the engineering activities as they relate to production, development, planning, legal compliance, safety and environmental requirements for Cumberland Mine, preparation Plant and associated areas.

Job Specific and/or Technical Skills Required

Budgeting, planning and controlling mine projects. Plan and manage capital acquisitions and cost control related to their specific areas of responsibility. Competent in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and AutoCAD, and depending on their area of responsibility any specific computer applications required, such as Ventilation modeling.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop cost effective, safe, and efficient project plans for development of budget models.
  • Manage the day-to-day production and construction activities as they relate to the mine plan.
  • Coordinate activities between the various departments to ensure accomplishment of the plan.
  • The timely, accurate development and filing of required mining permits and approvals.
  • Design and develop the specific mine related projects for the safe, efficient operation of Cumberland Mine.
  • Coordinate and manage contractors’ activities including all predetermined, safety, quality, and performance standards.
  • Assist in the development of departmental employees.
  • Provide engineering and technical support to the various surface and underground groups.
  • Assist in the development and management of the engineering budget.
  • Ensure environmental compliance through planning, monitoring, and construction.
  • Support and propagate Company initiatives.
