Iron Senergy is proud to announce that we have received the Encova Safety Award, recognizing our continued commitment to maintaining a safe, responsible, and disciplined work environment across all operations.
Safety is more than a priority at Iron Senergy—it is a core value that drives every decision we make. This award reflects the consistent effort of our entire team, from the prep plant to underground operations, who work each day with a shared focus on protecting one another and doing the job the right way.
The Encova Safety Award highlights organizations that demonstrate strong safety performance, proactive risk management, and a culture centered around accountability. While the recognition itself is an honor, it is the daily actions of our employees that truly define what this achievement means. Every pre-shift check, every safety conversation, and every decision made with care contributes to a workplace where everyone goes home safe.
This milestone is also a reflection of the systems and processes we have in place—supported by strong partnerships and a commitment to continuous improvement. By staying focused on training, communication, and awareness, we ensure that safety remains at the forefront of our operations.
We extend our congratulations and appreciation to the entire Iron Senergy team for earning this recognition. Your dedication, professionalism, and pride in your work continue to set the standard for safety in our industry.

Iron Senergy was honored to be present at the Champion of Coal event—an evening dedicated to recognizing the workers, communities, and industries that continue to power America every single day.
The event brought together coal miners, industry leaders, elected officials, and supporters from across the country to celebrate the enduring strength and importance of American coal. It was a powerful reminder that behind every ton of coal produced are hardworking men and women, proud families, and resilient communities who keep our nation running.
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of Donald Trump, who was awarded the title of Undisputed Champion of Coal. The honor was presented in recognition of his continued and vocal support for the coal industry and American energy production.
During the event, President Trump also signed an executive order reinforcing his commitment to strengthening domestic energy production and supporting coal communities across the country. The moment underscored a broader national conversation about energy independence, grid reliability, and the vital role coal continues to play in America’s energy mix.
At Iron Senergy, we understand that coal is more than an energy source—it’s a way of life. It supports families, funds local economies, and provides reliable, affordable electricity that keeps homes warm, businesses operating, and the lights on across America.

At Iron Senergy, we believe strong communities are built on strong relationships. On Saturday, January 30, we were proud to welcome members of the Luzerne Township Volunteer Fire Company, Brownsville Fire Company #1, and South Brownsville Volunteer Fire Company #1 for a tour of our Labelle Harbor operations.
These dedicated first responders play a critical role in protecting our employees, our neighbors, and the surrounding community. Hosting them onsite was an opportunity not only to showcase our operations, but also to strengthen the working relationships that are so important in emergency preparedness and response.
Tours like this allow local emergency personnel to:
By ensuring first responders are familiar with our operations, we enhance preparedness and reinforce our shared commitment to safety.
Volunteer fire departments are the backbone of many rural communities. The men and women who serve do so selflessly—often balancing full-time jobs while answering calls at all hours of the day and night.
We are incredibly thankful for their continued service, professionalism, and dedication to keeping La Belle and the surrounding areas safe.
At Iron Senergy, safety extends beyond our gates. It’s about partnership, collaboration, and showing up for the communities where we live and work.
Thank you again to our local fire companies for spending the day with us. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect and proud to stand alongside our local heroes.

Iron Senergy is excited to share that Bluefield State University has reinstated its prestigious Mining Engineering Technology program, after a decade-long pause. The program’s return is timely, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the mining industry.
According to Dr. Darrin Martin, Interim President of Bluefield State University, “We are thrilled to reintroduce the Mining Engineering Technology program at Bluefield State. This program has long been a cornerstone of our engineering offerings, and its revival is a testament to our dedication to fostering economic growth and providing valuable educational opportunities in our region” (Olsen).
The revival of the program originated from discussions between Bluefield State Board of Governors member Shannon Remines and Mike Blackburn of Pocahontas Royalties, LLC. During their conversation about the industry’s growing need for trained engineers, the pair decided to lead the effort to bring back the program (Olsen).
Approved by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission in the spring of 2024, the program has already seen a strong response from high school and vocational students. Coal companies, manufacturers, foundations, and individuals have provided financial support, scholarships, lab space, and internships, ensuring that students are equipped with real-world experience. “It’s important that our students enter the workforce with real-world experience beyond the classroom,” said Bill Bennett, Dean of the School of STEM at Bluefield State (Olsen).
This four-year program will culminate in a Bachelor of Science degree, preparing graduates with essential skills such as mine ventilation, safety management, and mineral processing. According to Keith Olson, Bluefield State’s Vice President of Development, “There are 14 accredited mining and mineral engineering degree programs across the country producing approximately 150 graduates, while there is an industry need for over 500 engineers each year” (Olsen). With a significant portion of the current geoscience workforce set to retire by 2029, the program’s revival couldn’t come at a better time.
Iron Senergy is thrilled to support the next generation of mining professionals and looks forward to seeing the impact of the Mining Engineering Technology program on both students and the mining industry.
For more information on the program, visit Bluefield State’s Mining Engineering Technology page.

The WVU Medicine Children’s Gala commemorated its 20th anniversary at the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place on Saturday, February 10, with the presentation of the 2024 Community Service Award to Iron Senergy CEO/Owner, Justin Thompson.
As Thompson received the award, a video showcased individuals personally touched by his generosity, including Michelle James, a patient recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Michelle had the opportunity to attend concerts by Taylor Swift and Mariah Carey, courtesy of Iron Senergy. Reflecting on these experiences, Michelle shared, “It gave me something to look forward to in such a hard time, just getting to scream my favorite songs at the top of my lungs. It was an amazing little break from reality.” You can hear more of Michelle’s story, as well as that of Iron Senergy Plant Manager, Eric Gribble, who also benefited from Thompson’s kindness in the award video below.
Thompson’s dedication to philanthropy has left a permanent mark on countless lives. One notable initiative is his donation of $1 million to support the Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the new WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital. In honor of his donation Amy L. Bush, B.S.N., M.B.A., R.N., C.N.O.R., chief operating officer for WVU Medicine Children’s, said, “The Thompson family’s gift will help us build a top-notch facility and attract world-class neonatal experts to ensure that West Virginia families never have to leave the state for the care they need.”
The gala raised an astounding $1.45 million to support West Virginia children and their families, with over 1,200 attendees enjoying an elegant affair featuring a cocktail reception, silent auction, live entertainment, dinner, and more, all under the theme of “City of Lights.” A total of 90 sponsors contributed to the fundraising total, including top-level sponsors Iron Senergy, the Hayhurst Family, United Sound, Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place, CJL Engineering and HED Design, Friends of WVU Hospitals, Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration, Duke’s Mayo, Daniel’s Men’s Store, and WVU Medicine Garrett Regional Medical Center and Potomac Valley Hospital.
Through initiatives like these, Iron Senergy continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting our community and helping those in need. By using the strength of kindness and working together we believe we can create a brighter, more hopeful future for all.
